You are richer than what you think.

When the Lord is your Shepherd, you discover that the deepest form of abundance is not found in material gain but in the quality of your relationship with God and the people He’s placed in your life.

The Shepherd Who Redefines Wealth

Psalm 23 opens with a radical declaration: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”   This is not a statement of denial—it’s a statement of fullness. David isn’t saying he has everything he could ever imagine; he’s saying he has everything he truly needs because he has God.

In Scripture, want doesn’t mean desire—it means lack. To say “I shall not want” is to say:

  • I lack nothing essential.

  • I am not empty.

  • I am not abandoned.

  • I am not dependent on circumstances to feel secure.

This is the wealth of heaven: a life anchored in the Shepherd’s presence, provision, and peace.

The Three Necessities: Internal, External, Eternal

Heaven’s definition of “enough” is beautifully simple. God provides what we need in three dimensions:

1. Internal Necessities — A Restored Soul

Jesus gives what money cannot buy:

  • Peace that surpasses understanding

  • Joy that isn’t circumstantial

  • Identity that isn’t fragile

  • Hope that doesn’t expire

This is why Proverbs says, “Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.”   Internal riches are the foundation of a meaningful life.

2. External Necessities — Daily Bread

Jesus teaches us to pray for “daily bread,” not luxury. God promises:

  • Food

  • Clothing

  • Shelter

  • Strength for the day

Not extravagance—sufficiency. Not excess—enough.

When the Shepherd leads, He provides what sustains, not what distracts.

3. Eternal Necessities — A Secure Future

The greatest wealth is eternal:

  • Forgiveness

  • Salvation

  • Resurrection life

  • A place in the Father’s house

  • A hope that cannot be taken

Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… but store up treasures in heaven.”   Heavenly riches are the only ones that last.

Why Relationships Matter More Than Riches

From Genesis to Revelation, God shows that relationships are the true currency of the Kingdom.

  • Adam was given a garden, but God said it wasn’t good until he had relationship.

  • Jesus summarized the entire law with two relationships: God and neighbor.

  • Paul said that without love, even the most impressive achievements are “nothing.”

Materialism promises happiness but delivers emptiness. Relationships—especially with God—deliver meaning, belonging, and joy.

When your relationship with Jesus is healthy, and your relationships with family and friends are nurtured, you are already living in abundance.

The Freedom of “Enough”

Contentment is not settling for less—it’s waking up to the truth that you already have more than you think.

When the Shepherd is near:

  • You don’t need applause to feel valuable.

  • You don’t need possessions to feel secure.

  • You don’t need comparison to feel successful.

  • You don’t need excess to feel blessed.

You can breathe. You can rest. You can enjoy what you have. You can love the people in front of you. You can walk lightly through life.

This is the wealth the world cannot give and cannot take away.

True Riches: A Life That Overflows

Heaven measures wealth by:

  • The depth of your relationship with Jesus

  • The love you share with others

  • The peace in your soul

  • The purpose in your steps

  • The hope in your future

When the Lord is your Shepherd, you discover that having Him is having everything.

You don’t need more to be happy. You just need the Shepherd who leads you, restores you, and walks with you all the way home.
