The True Reason for the Season

On this snowy December 2nd, 2025, I am reminded of what Christmas is truly about. The very word itself tells the story: Christ-mas — more of Christ. This season is not simply about traditions or decorations, but about remembering the birth of Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God in the flesh.

We reflect on the holy family — Mary, Joseph, and the newborn Jesus. We remember the humble shepherds, the first to receive the divine invitation from angels to witness the miracle. We think of the wise men, the magi, who traveled far in search of the King of the Jews, guided by faith and a star.

Yet, in today’s world, the season often gets clouded by secular distractions. Trees, lights, gifts, and Santa Claus — all pleasant, but none the heart of the celebration.

Instead, let us look beyond:

  • 🌲 Beyond the tree, to the One who was born to die upon the tree for our sins.

  • 💡 Beyond the lights, to the One who came to be the Light of the World.

  • 🎁 Beyond the gifts, to the greatest gift ever given — God’s Son, born in human flesh.

  • 🎅 Beyond the man in the red coat, to the One who shed His red blood to save us.

Christmas is not about what we receive or display, but about what God gave: His Son, Jesus Christ. He came into the world just like you and me, yet fully God, to bring salvation and hope. That is the reason for the season.

May we pause, reflect, and celebrate the true gift of Christmas. God bless!
