Finding Identity in a World Full of Noise

Identity is one of the most important questions any human being will ever wrestle with. Who am I? Who am I supposed to be? These aren’t small questions — they shape our choices, our relationships, our future, and our sense of worth.

For years, my favorite acronym for the Bible has been Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. It’s simple, but it captures something profound: God didn’t leave us wandering in the dark. He gave us a manual for life, the Holy Spirit to guide us, and the Body of Christ to walk with us. In a world overflowing with voices, opinions, and influences, God still speaks clearly about who we truly are.

Growing Up Between Cultures

I’m a proud Latino, a bilingual American raised by a Colombian mother and a Cuban father. My identity has always been shaped by culture — the food, the music, the language, the rhythm of life. I love hip hop, R&B, basketball, sports, tattoos, and the beauty culture. All of these things have molded me, inspired me, and given me a sense of belonging.

But even with all of that richness, I still found myself searching. Trying what the world offered. Trying to fit into spaces that promised fulfillment but delivered emptiness. Trying to build an identity out of things that constantly shifted.

And I know I’m not alone. Today’s young people are drowning in information — social media, cell phones, trends, opinions, influencers, expectations. They’re trying to figure out who they are while being told a thousand different things about who they should be.

The Moment Everything Changed

It wasn’t until I made the Creator of the universe — our Lord Jesus Christ — the core of my identity that everything finally made sense.

When Christ became the center, I didn’t lose myself. I found myself. I didn’t become less Latino, less artistic, less expressive, less passionate. I became more whole, more grounded, more alive.

The world offers identity based on performance, appearance, popularity, and trends. Christ offers identity based on truth, purpose, and love.

Why Christ Must Be the Center

I am convinced — without a shadow of a doubt — that humanity will never truly experience joy or peace until Christ becomes the center of their identity.

Not a side piece. Not an accessory. Not a Sunday habit. But the core.

Because when Christ is the center:

• You stop chasing validation from people who don’t even know you.

• You stop trying to earn worth that God already gave you.

• You stop building your identity on things that can be taken away.

• You start living with purpose, clarity, and confidence.

Christ doesn’t erase your culture, your passions, or your personality. He redeems them. He aligns them. He uses them.

He shows you who you were always meant to be.

A Word to Anyone Searching

If you’re reading this and you’re still trying to figure out who you are — especially in a world that’s louder than ever — hear me clearly:

You will not find your identity in trends, in social media, in relationships, in achievements, or in the world’s approval. You will find it in Christ.

He is the One who made you. He is the One who knows you. He is the One who defines you.

And when you find yourself in Him, you finally find peace.
