Bold, Courageous, and Christ‑Centered: Why the Church Must Recover Its Voice.

Christians are living quieter than the Gospel allows. Not harsh. Not abrasive. Not “head‑beaters.” Just quiet — too quiet — about the most life‑changing truth in the universe: every person is made in the image of God, and every believer is reborn in Christ.

And when Christians lose sight of who Christ is and who they are in Christ, timidity becomes normal. Evangelism becomes rare. Churches drift into Churchianity — activity without mission, attendance without witness, comfort without courage.

Most Christians believe evangelism matters. Most Christians feel comfortable sharing the Gospel. Most Christians know Scripture commands it. Yet most Christians rarely do it. This isn’t a strategy problem. It’s an identity problem. When believers forget they are image‑bearers and Spirit‑empowered witnesses, they shrink back. They wait for “the right moment.” They assume someone else will speak. They settle for a faith that is private, polite, and passive. But the Gospel was never meant to be whispered.

The Numbers Don’t Lie: Evangelism Is Declining

These aren’t opinions — they’re hard data from Lifeway, Barna, and Hartford Institute. And they reveal a sobering truth:

1. Sharing the faith is rare

  • 27% of churchgoers haven’t shared their faith at all in six months.

  • The average churchgoer shares their faith twice in six months.

  • Only 8% share their faith 11+ times.

2. Belief doesn’t translate into action

  • 80% believe evangelism is their responsibility.

  • Yet 61% haven’t told anyone how to become a Christian in six months.

3. Comfort doesn’t lead to courage

  • 75% say they feel comfortable sharing the Gospel.

  • But only 25% have shared once or twice in six months.

  • Only 14% have shared three or more times.

4. Relationships are missing

  • Only 48% intentionally build friendships with non‑Christians.

  • Only 45% have meaningful relationships outside church for evangelism.

5. Invitations are rare

  • 48% haven’t invited a single unchurched person to church in six months.

6. Long-term decline

  • Only 1 in 3 Christians strongly feel responsible to share their faith — a 25‑year decline.

These numbers aren’t just statistics. They’re symptoms. Symptoms of a church that has forgotten its identity. Symptoms of believers who know the truth but rarely speak it. Symptoms of a culture where Churchianity has replaced Christianity.

Speak Christ, Grow in Christ, Share Christ — is exactly the antidote to this decline.

Because the problem isn’t that Christians don’t care. It’s that Christians aren’t formed for mission.

They need:

  • Intentional relationships with non‑believers

  • Training in simple Gospel conversations

  • Confidence rooted in identity, not personality

  • Accountability within the church family

  • Prayer rhythms for the lost — the strongest predictor of evangelism

Evangelism isn’t a program. It’s a culture. A heartbeat. A lifestyle shaped by assurance in Christ.
